Oscars may postpone 2021 edition

2021 Oscars may be postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The 93rd Academy Awards, or the Oscars, may be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anonymous sources said there is no concrete plan for the 2021 edition of the Oscars but its telecast is scheduled for February 28 on ABC channel.

One of the sources said it’s likely that the event will be postponed.

Academy president David Rubin previously said, “It’s impossible to know what the landscape will be. We know we want to celebrate film but we do not know exactly what form it will take.”

Based on Academy’s usual rules, the participating films are required to go on a seven-day screening in Los Angeles to be qualified for the Oscar. But, under current circumstances, the films that are released digitally are qualified for the big event.

According to the releasing news on Variety website, “The new rule changes also include allowing Oscar-qualifying theatrical runs to take place in New York, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta and the Bay Area, instead of just in Los Angeles”.

The Academy hasn’t commented on this speculations yet.
